Arsham has unearthed a way of seeing the familiar objects of today as future artefacts – taking the past, and making the present.

Daniel Arsham fittingly chose the adidas New York to work with, crating a creative and contemporary feel for the archival running shoe. Partly inspired by Arsham’s fascination with the concept of archeology and 20th-century cultural artifacts, the New York is presented in a “deteriorated” canvas upper with frayed edges in a completely tonal white colorway. Subtle and even hidden details are then added, with dual branding on the top of the tongues with screenprinted ‘Daniel Arsham’ and ‘Past’ details on the underside, and the model’s classic dellinger mesh midsole treated with an ultraviolet ink print that reads “THE PAST IS PRESENT” when hit with UV light.
